Bay filly 2004 NAMID ex SWIFT CHORUS (MUSIC BOY)
Purchase price: 21,000gns DBS St Leger Sale 2005
Trainer: Karl Burke, Middleham
This bay filly comes from one of the oldest and smartest old
British racing families owned by Hesmonds Stud. The third dam
and the foundation mare, Triple First, who was a high
class race-filly, produced thirteen winners from fourteen foals.
These included the Group One winners Richard of York
and Three Tails, who herself produced Epsom Derby Stakes
(Gr 1) runner up Tamure. However, much of this family
have become some of the leading milers in Europe. Talented
(Gr 1) Three Points (Gr 3), Dolores (Gr 1 pl)
are just three examples who have all run at highest level.
Swift Chorus may have only been a winner but she too
is proving to be a broodmare of note. She had produced six winners
from all her 6 runners, including a stakes winner, a remarkable
feat. Presto Shinko won the Wentworth Stakes (L) on 5th
November 2005 (having previously won the Ayr Gold Cup), to carry
the tradition of stakes winners in ever generation. The trainer's
assistant, Richard Hannon Jr, said after Presto Shinko's win
"I think he will get better and I think he will be a Group
1 sprinter next year."
Namid, her sire, has only had two crops of racing age
but has already had five stakes winners. Namid himself was the
winner of the Prix de l'Abbaye (Gr 1) and much of his stock
has followed this trend by becoming sprinters. Blue Dakota proved
to be a very smart two-year-old and took the Norfolk Stakes
(Gr 3) at Royal Ascot and Resplendent Glory won the Sandown
Sprint Stakes (Gr 3) and looks set to improve further next season.
Much of Swift Chorus off-spring seem to follow their sires
when it come to the trip they run over. Namid has a good record
finished in the top ten as a two-year old sire.
An earlier start will suit and her trip is likely to be over
the sprint distances but she may get a mile at the end of her
three-year-old season.
