Purchase price: 64,000gns Tattersalls October 2 Yearling Sale
2006 (Lot 1478)
Tweenhills Racing Ownership: 33%
Trainer: Chris Wall, Newmarket
This filly is a half-sister to Ceremonial Jade, who is now a winner
of three races and is rated over 90 by the BHB. The dam Talah,
was also a winner and is an own-sister to the Godolphin raced
Firth Of Lorne. Firth Of Lorne was runner-up in the French 1,000
Guineas and has proved to be very smart in the USA, having been
placed in graded races on numerous occasions.
Their dam, Kerrerea, was one of the best juvenile fillies of her generation
winning the Cherry Hinton Stakes (Gr 3) and being placed runner-up
in the 1,000 Guineas in her Classic season. This family is packed
with high-class performers all the way through which includes
the very quirky but talented Italian 2,000 Guineas winner Dupont,
Gr 2 winner Pacino and Gimcrack Stakes (Gr 2) winner Rock City.
The sire, Xaar, is a son of Zafonic and was European Champion
two-year-old and European Champion three-year-old. He won 5
of his 11 starts and recorded a Timeform rating of 132. As a
two-year-old his victories included the Dewhurst Stakes (Gr
1) and the Prix de la Salamandre (Gr 1). As a three-year-old
he won the Craven Stakes (Gr 3) and was third in the Irish Champion
Stakes (Gr 1) to Swain.
Bred by Juddmonte Farms, Xaar comes from one of their best
families that include the likes of Senure (Gr 1), Chimes Of
Freedom (Gr 1), El Gran Senor (Gr 1) and Redoute’s Choice
(Gr 1). As a sire, Xaar has proved to be a very smart sire of
two-year-olds, siring the likes of Gimcrack winner Tony James
(Gr 2), Ripon 2yo Trophy winner and Mill Reef Stakes (Gr 2)
runner-up Sir Xaar and Cheveley Park Stakes (Gr 1) runner-up
Wake Up Maggie. Xaar is also the sire of Balthazaar’s
Gift (Gr 2) who proved to be one Europe’s best sprinters
in 2006 and was runner-up in the Golden Jubilee Stakes (Gr 1)
at Royal Ascot. Xaar has sired over 82 winners since going to
stud in 2000 and had a strong 2006 yearling sale average of
over 32,000gns.
The Zafonic line also has a strong record with this family
as he is the sire of Dupont, winner of the Italian 2,000 Guineas
under the care of William Haggas, and Pacino a German Group
2 winner. This filly is also bred on a Zafonic/Danehill cross
which is the cross that top two-year-old and Tweenhills stallion
Trade Fair was bred on.
